Speaker Spotlight: Max van der Klis-Busink on Global Payroll, then and now
By 2024, most human resources leaders will offer payroll cards (pay cards) to their workforce linked to an on-demand payroll offering, according to Ventana Research.
The fact continues to stand that global payroll technology and employee experience go hand in hand. When a sound system for payroll technology is in place, it is undeniable that it results in happier and more satisfied employees.
But how can one go about providing that seamless experience?
That's one of the many questions that will be answered by Max van der Klis-Busink in his session, "Delivering a Global Payroll Experience - now and then!" in Neeyamo's Evolve Beyond Borders 2023. Understand the present state of global payroll technology and what its future will entail.
For now, here's a sneak peek into Max's mind and what you can expect to gather from his session:
What are the upcoming trends you are expecting in global payroll in the near future?
I expect more consolidation in the vendor space of global payroll with mergers and acquisitions. HCM providers are also expected to not only continuously build strong ecosystems of global payroll partners but also further develop their own (local) payroll engines in key markets. Much like the direction of Neeyamo, to become less dependent on partners and control the end-to-end experience. Investments and developments will focus more on the employee payroll experience and the payroll professional's experience.
What’s the biggest change you have seen in global payroll since the pandemic started?
Like many organizations, payroll delivery has been impacted by the switch in working models from physical to WFH to a hybrid model. This required global payroll operations to further digitize with delivery from anywhere in changing environments. And rapid international expansion demanded standardized, streamlined, and quick deployment of payrolls in new countries. Having the right talent with a can-do attitude was vital.
Do you think we are close to achieving a truly touchless payroll experience?
Realistically, I do not, as it will depend on where we believe payroll ends and starts. Providers are taking the proper steps towards STP and focusing investments there. There are three potential blockers for an authentic end-to-end STP experience; governments and their payroll reporting requirements and legislative changes, payroll professionals not challenging the status quo, and the entire suite of systems involved in the process.
What is the biggest current flaw in global payroll that needs to be addressed?
The biggest flaw is the current disconnect between what vendors are offering and what payroll professionals are adopting. One could state the adoption rate needs to be higher and the status quo needs to be challenged, or the vendors need to be able to a) sell the story or b) match the profession's needs. The gap will be closed in the upcoming years.
What can the audience expect from your session?
Payroll will need to put the employees at the heart of their service delivery while supporting the business. A payroll experience should match the workforce's expectations, now and in the future. This session will explore what such an experience can look like and what levers can be pulled to deliver on the promise. Be sure to attend to have thought-provoking ideas to take back to your organization!
